EERSTERUST REVISTED
Time has come and time has gone
fullfilmemnt has fallen on Eersterust
space to add more houses is no more
and the kids of yorn
have all but grown and left
Some….
like my two sons
have both been killed
others died naturally
There are those
who got married and left-
and those who could never make it
even in Eersterust
Winston build himself a double story
with a pool nogal
and Manna went overseas for a while
Ou Speedo is still writing plays
and James…
well, you know ou Nkosi
Meantime Robba became head
of the Unisa's Library
and Johnny Mash..
Man! the brother writes even greater
poetry
We did get our Doctors Freddie Ranks
Hoods, Fischer and Adams
and who could have thought
Aunt Dot would become a politician
Technology brought us IT specialists
who can possess a computer
interface to interface
and the best are found in Eersterust
Mama Oy went with the floods
Awong just upped and gone
King was taken over by Matthews
H M became G M
and Tivoli gardens is now a bakery
We have additional streets
with bohemian names like
Crawford, Elsies River, (imagine)
Roots, Clapham…..
The owners of the Groovin' Gla
passed away and Eersterus
kept on swelling
becoming bigger
People are now driving in flashy
BMW's, Mercs and Four by Fours
all kids have cellphones
and know nothing about Baas and
Miesies
Landmarks like the Stinkspruit
and the Tannery are faded thoughts
trains rumble by without
anyone paying attention to them
and nobody remembers the Hangavas
In the new dispensation
Alas! Eersterust has also joined the
struggle between being a township and
a suburb

Eersterust Revisited
"Eersterust Revisited" was a complimentary and an
impromptu poem inspired by Speedo, after he
created the play "Die Afspringers", influenced by my
initial poem, "Eersterust", written in August 1983.
Eersterust Revisited is a reflective and introspective
work, drawing what was then, into the here and now.
Looking at the evolvement and development of this
unique community and how it wrestled itself from the
quagmire of thuggery, hooliganism and gansterism;
to a vibrant and dynamic people with greatness,
excellence and distinction.
NUFF RESPECT to my Homies!
